Mass Alliance is excited to endorse Jimmy Pereira, who is running for mayor of Brockton, for its rising star program. He is a community activist, an urban and rural planner, and father who is running to create opportunity and prosperity for all families. His experiences advocating for Brockton’s neediest communities would make him a great mayor.
Jimmy grew up in the Department of Youth Services, where he encountered systemic inequities firsthand. He started his career at MassBike as a Healthy Design Coordinator, developing community models and infrastructure that focused on socioeconomic determinants of health and environmental justice. He is now a community and transportation planner with the Commonwealth’s local regional planning council, tasked with the physical, social, and economic development of Brockton and 16 other communities across Southeastern Massachusetts. He is also the 1st Vice Chairperson of the Brockton Democratic City Committee.
Jimmy is running to combat growing income inequality, worsening health disparities, increased homelessness, gun violence, and poor educational outcomes. His lifelong experiences empowering marginalized communities and his deep connection to Brockton would translate to a mayoralty powered by the grassroots and attentive to all residents.
