Mass Alliance is excited to endorse Bill Humphrey, who is running for Newton’s Ward 5 City Council seat, for its rising star program. Bill is a progressive Democrat and 5th generation Newton native who has dedicated his life to advancing the causes of environmentalism, marriage equality, and racial justice.
Bill’s political career began in college, where he worked for the local Democratic chapter and volunteered on various Democratic campaigns. After graduating, he served as the Statewide Director and co-founder of Delaware Right to Marry Political Action Committee to advance marriage equality. Since then, he has kept himself involved in politics: hosting a progressive radio show in Newton, working as a researcher at a small global consulting firm focused on local economic development, and as Political Committee Chair for the Massachusetts Sierra Club.
Now, Bill wants to bring that same energy to his local government. He comes from a long family of public service: his mother is a union nurse and his father is a public transit planner. Like his family, Bill believes passionately in the power of good government and public works to make society more socially just and equitable. He has spent years advocating for progressive causes at the grassroots level, and now it’s time for his vision and passion to be included on the Newton City Council.
